• The Morning Fair starts at around 8.30am in the closed-to-traffic West Street. The Wizard will wake up the village, with the bells of St Margarets acting as our snooze alarm. There will be stalls of food, produce and information available - come and have your Fair-day breakfast in Ditchling's West Street. 

    The Fair Proclamation will be read by The Rev. David Wallis and the bestowing of the Village Gems.

    Ditchling Morris and their guest side, Black Powder Morris, will entertain you with a variety of energetic dances.

  • The Procession around the village will also include the FANCY DRESS COMPETITION that individuals and small groups can enter. 

  • The scarecrows are up! After a last minute flurry of entries there are now lots to explore. 

    Maps available from Ditchling Post Office and Parkers - the voting slip is in the Fair Programme. Go for a wander and vote for your favourite by returning the voting form to the Post Office.

    Entry to the 2018 competition is now closed.

    This year’s theme is Magic, music and Merriment!

    Base your scarecrow on any people, stories or events that reflect the fair theme, you can have as many scarecrows as you like in one scene.

     An official entry form be received by Thursday 7th June 2018

    Scarecrows should be finished, in situ and showing their sign and number by Saturday June 9th

    Multiple entries per household are permitted but must be entered separately, full details on the entry form.

About Ditchling Fair

In 1312 King Edward II granted John de Warenne, Lord of the Manor, the right to run a Fair in Ditchling 'in the eve and in the day and in the morrow of St Margaret the Virgin' and thus was to be celebrated on July 20th.
